El Monte schools lauded nationally for health programs

El MONTE - Two schools in the El Monte City School District were nationally recognized for efforts to promote healthy eating and more physical activity among students. Columbia Elementary and Junior High schools received the bronze-level award given by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a joint partnership of the William J. Clinton Foundation and the American Heart Association.

 

District officials said activities like the Kids Fitness Challenge, where students spend the day running around the Rose Bowl and attending a Fitness Expo, is one way of engaging their attention.

 

 

Kids Fitness Challenge – Rose Bowl Named Finalist for 2007 Governor’s Council Award

The Kids Fitness Challenge - Rose Bowl has been selected as a finalist for the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Spotlight Awards in the Event Category.

 

The 2007 Spotlight Awards winners will be announced on Sept. 19 in Sacramento, CA.

 

The award winners will receive a grant from the Governor's Council.

 

The Fitness Challenge Foundation would like to thank everyone who helped make the Rose Bowl event the biggest kids health and fitness event in the state of California.

 04/19/2007 - Thursday morning, awards were handed out participation in the "Kids Fitness Challenge."

Last month, Kaiser Permanente, Save Mart, El Monterey, First 5 Fresno, Nutrition Network, California Public Health, Chukchansi Park, General Mills Foundation, California Endowment, the Fresno County Office of Education and ABC-30 sponsored the Fitness Challenge at Chukchansi Park.
